Flea and Tick ProductsTreating Ticks and Fleas can be a problem. Most of the treatments used are toxic to dogs as well as the pest. Oils are harmful if the dog is allergic to them. We should not have to put toxic chemicals on our pets to kill fleas and ticks.
One thing I have found that work for all applications is Diatomaceous Earth. You can put D-Earth directly on your pet with no ill effects. It is beneficial if licked off, too, as it will kill stomach parasites. You can broadcast it in your yard, and you can use it around your doors and windows. As a preventive measure, mix DE with your pet's food as a daily preventative to many types of intestinal parasites. Most dogs and cats do not react negatively to the powder's taste or texture when added to their meals. It would be best if you took precautions to keep yourself and your pets from inhaling DE( feed on wet food or put water in their food), as it will irritate the lungs due to its dehydrating effect.
